"Navitracker(TM) trials in the North American and European markets have been highly encouraging," said Dr. Louis-Phillipe Amiot, CEO of ORTHOsoft, Inc. "This new CAS tracking device will provide surgeons increased visibility, accuracy, robustness and ease-of-use during hip, knee and spine surgeries," added Dr. Amiot. Dr. T. Mattes, University of Ulm, Germany used the Navitracker(TM) in a recent trial and commented, "Everyone on my team found these new trackers very easy to handle. Our scrub tech found them quicker to unpack, and most importantly we never lost the tracking even during extensive leg motion or when the trackers were soiled after the use of power tools.

Jewelry Made from Computer Parts

Tired of spending time and effort on buying the latest gadget gift for your lady (okay, for you) only to disappoint her and have yet another round of the "you never buy me jewelry" conversation? But unlike the CEO, George Capell, who was sentenced last November to seven years and two months in the slammer, Buttery, 55, of Philadelphia, who was chief financial officer of Computer Personalities Systems Inc., fared much better. U.S. District Judge Anita B. Brody gave Buttery 12 months and a day in prison, five years of supervised release, and ordered him to make restitution with Capell of $31.9 million. Brody also ordered Buttery to perform a period of community service during his first year of supervised release. He must begin his prison term on May 4.

Computer Parts Smuggled Into Tucker Prison

Investigation of what officials say was a scheme to provide state prisoners with unsupervised access to computers has resulted in the resignation of one prison employee, the dismissal of two others, and placement of four on leave. That's according to prisons spokeswoman Dina Tyler. Tyler said Wednesday that computer parts smuggled into the Tucker Unit in Jefferson County, and then reassembled into working computers, allowed inmates to play games, watch DVD movies and potentially get access to the Internet. Investigators found at least six rebuilt computers in buildings scattered around the Tucker Unit, northeast of Pine Bluff. Officials don't know if the computers were used to send messages or communicate with others outside the prison, but Tyler says it was a possibility.

Polar F6 Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Denim Stone)

The Polar F6 heart rate monitor is a great choice for using in large groups, where other excercisers might be using wireless training gear that could interfere with your own signal. The F6's coded transmission prevents crosstalk with other monitors so you'll get a personalized workout--even in a class environment. It's packed with innovative training features to help you toward your exercise goals, including: Zone Pointer: A visible and audible feature on the display of your heart rate monitor showing your target heart rate zone and where your current heart rate is within that zone. Polar OwnCal: This feature shows your energy expenditure during one exercise session as well as your accumulated kilocalories during several exercise sessions. You can set daily and weekly exercise goals in terms of calorie expenditure with the OwnCal feature. Because the OwnCal tracks both the energy expenditure during one exercise session and the accumulated kilocalories during a longer time e.g. one week, it helps in achieving both short term and long term goals. Polar OwnZone: This feature guides you through an appropriate warm-up routine and automatically determines a safe and effective exercise heart rate zone--your OwnZone--while taking into account your current physical condition. Polar OwnCode: This technology blocks unwanted signals from other heart rate monitors, ensuring disturbance-free transmission of your heart rate data. The Fitness Bullets feature shows a bullet on the monitor's display for every 10 minutes spent exercising/training in your target heart rate zone. The Time in Target Zone feature calculates the amount of total exercise time spent in your personal target zone. You can use this feature together with the Total Exercise Time to determine the effectiveness of your exercise program. You can also better assess your training data using the included Polar Precision Performance (PPP) 4.0 software and the SonicLink feature, which wirelessly uploads exercise settings to the software or to Polar's web service. Other features include: Display of heart rate, exercise time and average heart rate 24 hour clock with day/week indicator and stopwatch Large easy-to-read display with split screen One-year average battery life Water resistant to 30 meters (100 feet) Manufacturer's Warranty The original purchaser of this heart rate monitor is backed by a limited warranty that states that this product that the product will be free from defects in material or workmanship for two years from the date of purchase. About Polar The first EKG accurate wireless heart rate monitor was invented by Polar back in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski Team. The concept of "intensity training" by heart rate swept the athletic world in the eighties. By the 1990s, individuals were looking to heart rate monitors not only for performance training needs, but also for achieving everyday fitness goals. Today, the same concept of heart rate training is being used by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight. Polar is the leading brand among consumers, coaches, and personal trainers worldwide and the company is committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise.

Apple.com leads all computer hardware sites in visits

"Apple Computer Inc. in November 2006 continued to lead in the number of visits to computer hardware e-commerce sites, with 39.7 million visits, up 29% from 30.8 million in November 2005, according to Nielsen/NetRatings Inc.," InternetRetailer.com reports. Arbisser said he also didn't know whether or not the computer belonged to former UIHC head John Colloton, the name that came up after Regent President Michael Gartner requested the incident be investigated at a Jan. 11 state Board of Regents' meeting. But Arbisser did question why Colloton, a respected UIHC administrator and donor who once held the top post at the UIHC, retains an office on the first floor of the hospital unit that bears his name, the John W. Colloton Pavilion. "He's not a current employee," Arbisser said. "I certainly hold him in high esteem as an administrator in his time, but I'm not sure what function he serves now that requires an office." University Relations Director Steve Parrott, who said no patient data or other sensitive information was compromised in the incident, declined to name an employee or employees responsible for accessing unspecified data on the computer, which Parrott wouldn't confirm was Colloton's.

Report Gives Comprehensive Overview of the Global Computer ...

DUBLIN, Ireland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c48041) has announced the addition of Datamonitor's new report: Global Computer Hardware to their offering. Lottery spokeswoman Tara Robertson says the computer system was looking for two midday numbers because of a scheduling conflict. She says the system would not function without giving two midday numbers. Lottery officials say this is the first time the computer error has occurred. Lottery executive director Ernie Passailaigue says the error has not affected other lottery games. Roger Duronio also was ordered to pay $3.1m in restitution to his former employer, now known as UBS Financial Services Inc, part of the Swiss banking company UBS AG. Duronio, 64, was put under house arrest by US District Judge Joseph A Greenaway jnr until he is assigned to a prison. He had been free on $1m bail. The term was the maximum under sentencing guidelines, which pleased US attorney Christopher J Christie. Dec 7 (Interfax) - Wednesday's searches at the offices of the Russian Pension Fund and Moscow companies which supply computers and software are related to each other, a source in law enforcement services told Interfax on Thursday. "Investigators are looking into a theory suggesting that computers were purchased at one price and sold to the Pension Fund at a different price," he said. The Interior Ministry's Investigation Committee is handling the probe, the source said. An Investigation Committee spokesman, however, has declined to comment on the so-called "computer case." But this year, the choice is especially easy, thanks to a new kind of computer from one of the oldest manufacturers in the PC business," Al Fasoldt reports for The Syracuse Post-Standard. "The new computer is a dual-function PC from Apple Computer, which has been making personal computers since the mid-1970s. It's sold with Apple's advanced internal software, or operating system, along with a suite of programs for managing photos and music, making DVDs, recording audio, doing e-mail and Web browsing," Fasoldt reports. I've been recommending Apple's [Mac] computers for many years [which] are easier to use than the ones made by all the other PC makers, called Windows PCs. They're also much safer - Windows PCs are, literally, under siege from 200,000 viruses and countless spyware invaders, while Macs have no actual viruses or spyware - and, as if this weren't enough, Macs also tend to last longer," Fasoldt reports.

$12.7m worth of computer parts stolen

A gang of thieves stole microchips and computer parts worth about $12.7m (9.9m) from a Malaysian warehouse, it was reported today. The $3.8 million 24,000 square foot facility will accept computers for recycling and will allow for the safe disposal or recycling of household hazardous chemicals. "We need to dispose of these household hazardous products responsibly and recycle, where possible, to ensure our City maintains a safe and clean environment," said Mayor Daley. "Rather than putting toxic paints out in the trash where they can burst and endanger our trash collectors and others, we encourage residents to bring these materials to this new facility. "Rather than tossing a dead battery in the trash where it will go to a landfill and expose toxins to the citys groundwater, recycle batteries at this facility or at a neighborhood Walgreen's or Chicago Public Library." The facility accepts the following materials for recycling or safe disposal, including: antifreeze, used motor oil, old gasoline, oil-based paints, paint thinners, aerosol paints, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, lawn chemicals, solvents, drain cleaners, cleaning products, pool chemicals, hobby chemicals, mercury, fluorescent lamps and bulbs, computers and cell phones.

AtomicPark.com Expands Computer Hardware Line Again

Milwaukee, WI (FV Newswire) - AtomicPark.com, a fast-growing technology e-retailer, announced today that it has expanded its computer hardware section to include desktop computers, notebook computers, motherboards, and USB flash drives. Hackers obtained thousands of Social Security and driver's license numbers from an online municipal job application system in late September. The information of more than 58-hundred people was stolen. The city is mailing letters to everyone who applied online since February. The online application site has been shut down while work is done to ensure the system's security. The breach came to light late last month when another hacker noticed the earlier intrusion and alerted city officials. The Texas Department of Public Safety and Secret Service are assisting Lubbock police in the investigation. ___ Information from: Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, http://www.lubbockonline.com Copyright 2006 Associated Press.

Computer game thief nabbed

Palo Alto police arrested a 21-year-old East Palo Alto man Friday afternoon after he allegedly stole cash and a computer game. Police officers set up a perimeter and approximately 10 minutes later, a man matching the suspect's description was spotted and detained by officer Melda Christmas. The suspect, Brandon Walczak, was identified by the resident, arrested by police on suspicion of felony burglary and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail. Officers said they believe that a juvenile may have assisted in the burglary, but the accomplice remains at large. Super Micro Computer admitted that between Dec. 28, 2001 and Jan. 29, 2002, it received $27,600 for 300 of its P4SBA+ motherboards, which were shipped to an intermediary in the United Emirates, which then transferred the items into Iran. A motherboard is the central circuit board making up complex electronic systems such as computers. "At the time of the export the items were controlled for reasons of national security, and exporting them to Iran without a license was illegal," according to a Department of Justice report. "The motherboards at issue are no longer controlled for export." The company has been monitored since it began export controls in February 2004 as a result of the federal investigation, and in that time it has committed no further export violations, according to the plea agreement submitted to U.S.

Leading Provider of Computer Parts and Repair Services Changes ...

Pre-Owned Electronics, a leading provider of replacement computer parts and computer repair services for over 20 years, primarily to the business-to-business community, has changed its name to Blue Raven Technology, Inc. This will provide a big market to China which will compete for half of PC requirements for the Indian domestic and industry users. The institution expects that India`s hardware demand levels will grow to USD 93 billion by 2010 against the projected production levels of USD 23 billion. This will leave a deficit of USD 70 billion in the next 4 years. 50% of this deficit will have to be made good from China because of the price factor, competitive edge and the supportive policy of the Chinese government towards the hardware industry. ASSOCHAM has further estimated that the current demand of the domestic hardware industry is above USD 24 billion, out of which almost 1/3rd is satisfied indigenously and the remaining is imported mostly from countries like China, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, EU and USA.

State Worker Admits Having Child Porn On Gov't Computer

NEW YORK -- A state Transportation Department engineer pleaded guilty Thursday to having child pornography on his work computer. Thanks so much for all your assistance. -- Helen Madison A: If a program has crashed that was using your modem, a simple reboot should take care of the problem. If not it could take some time to find the problem. You can get a list of programs that are running by pressing control, alt, delete. That will open the Task Manager. Depending on your version of windows, you may need to click the Programs tab to see them. Once there you will see a list of programs that could be using the modem port. If you are using Windows 98, closing rnaapp may take care of the problem. If you are using Windows 2000 or XP and you have Quicken 2000, the error can be caused by the Quickens download manager.

ShopLIGATT.com, the World's Largest Selection of Computer Security ...

MARINA DEL REY, Calif., Aug. 28, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- ShopLIGATT.com is offering special pricing on security DVR systems, infrared security cameras, Internet Security software and eBooks during the week of August 28th, 2006.
